The title of the volume deliberately echoes that of the famous 1963 book by ethologist Konrad Lorenz, in which the Austrian scientist questioned the nature and origin of aggressive behavior and the difference between such behavior in humans and animals. It is often this possible difference between the motivations behind animal and human behavior that gives rise to discussions about evil.
